10 Weekend Trip destinations near Delhi

Public transportation is not advisable for some time as it exposes you and your family to a much greater risk of contracting Covid-19 "Corona-Virus" hence we have come up with a list of weekend getaways near Delhi where you can drive easily. Check it out!!

We are all corporate slaves but hey who does not like to take a short break every now & then? Here we have made a list of 10 weekend getaways where you can plan your short holidays, we have also tried to include relevant information required to plan your trip. Most of these destinations are best combined with a road trip :)

Neemrana lies in the Ahirwal region in Rajsthan is now bustling industrial town but known mainly for the Neemrana Fort Palace which which was home to Prithviraj Chauhan III. The fort has been converted into a luxury hotel which makes up for an amazing weekend destination. It is roughly 126 KM drive from Delhi, while you might find some local buses plying between Delhi & Neemrana, it is best to drive yourself or hire a cab.

If you are not staying at Neemrana Fort Palace you can still visit for a day trip. On a weekday, the Neemrana fort resorts entry ticket is around INR 1,700 between 9:00 AM and 2:30 PM, which includes a delicious lunch buffet (INR 1,416) and entry (INR 284) in the package.

How to reach:

Delhi to Neemrana by bus takes around 3 hours 45 minutes and it costs anywhere between INR 370 - INR 600 per person per way.

Delhi to Neemrana by train" Unfortunately there are no direct trains which ply between Delhi & Neemrana however there are around 8 different trains which ply between Delhi & Alwar. However Alwar is still around 70 KM away from Neemrana so taking a train is not recommended.

Rishikesh is one of most sough after places in India for white water river rafting in Ganga river but that's not all. Rishikesh is also the yoga capital of the world, thousands of international yoga aspirants flock to Rishikesh and enrol in Yoga training programmes. Some even chose to stay back here because it is so peaceful on the banks of holy Ganges. Rishikesh lies in Uttaranchal state of India around 240 KM by road.

Rishikesh is connected well by road and there are many buses starting from Non AC state run to Luxury volvo for each budget. You can also take a train to Haridwar / Dehradun from Delhi but that would require you to hire a taxi / or again take a bus to reach Rishikesh.

Jim Corbett National Park is roughly 230 KM by road from Delhi and driving down remains one of the best ways to experience the wilderness of the forest which accounts for the majority of tiger population in India. The core area of the Jim Corbett Jungle is open from Mid November to Mid June however there is Jhirna zone which is open throughout the year. Major portion closes every year on account of monsoon.

Having said that there are many resorts which are operational throughout as they are located outside the main national park and are certainly worth visiting for its rich flora & fauna. P.S. You should consider visiting the Corbett waterfall.

If you want to go in Dhikala zone (one of the most sought after for Bengal Tiger sighting) you should make an advance booking for Corbett National Park.

Other ways to reach Corbett:

By bus: There are many buses including state run Luxury Volvo (Semi seater) & roadways buses which ply between Delhi & Ramnagar. You will have to hire a private cab / hotel shuttle from Ramnagar Bus Stand.

By Train: Couple of trains operate between Delhi & Ramnagar Junction. There is no direct train or bus connection hence not much recommended.

Dhanaulti is one of the places near Delhi which is highly recommended whenever you need a change of of weather and a considerably cooler temperature. This makes Dhanaulti a super hit among weekend trippers from Delhi. Delhi to Dhanaulti is roughly about 293 KM and about 25 KM from Mussorie (Another widely popular weekend getaway destination but too crowded & urbanized for our liking).

Dhanaulti has many camping resorts which serve well for budget accommodation and some luxury resorts too. Although staying in camps might not be very luxurious but it is surely closer to nature and fun with all the group activities & games. Orthodox hotel stays are boring (Personal Opinion)

Other ways to reach Dhanaulti:

By Train: You can take one of the many trains until Dehradun and take a private cab for your onward journey to reach Dhanaulti, but it wont really be much cost effective & comfortable as you will have to manage time as per the train schedule. As it is getting confirmed train reservations is a task in India.

Best option will be to take a Shatabdi if you do choose to travel by Indian Railways.

By Bus: Many buses ply between Delhi & Dehradun on a daily basis and you can reach Dehradun however from Dehradun again you can either take a taxi or another connecting local roadways bus to reach Dhanaulti. Not many buses go exactly to Dhanaulti.

There are no direct trains / buses from Delhi to Dhanaulti.

Pangot is a quaint village town located at height of 6,510 feet from the sea level in the Nanital district of Uttaranchal. Roughly about 18 KM by road from Nainital & 308 KM from Delhi. Pangot is a must visit if you are looking for tranquil short getaway away from hustle & bustle of city life. There are many boutique hotels, cottages, camps & even handful of Luxury resorts for welcoming you. Wander Womaniya however recommends a camping experience as that's what separates Pangot from other hill stations.

Pangot & Dhanaulti are pretty similar in look & feel with Pangot being a new kid on the block as many tourists already know about Dhanaulti.

Other ways to reach Pangot:

Pangot & Delhi are not connected directly by public transport.

By Train: You can take a train to Haldwani from Delhi from where you will have to depend upon a roadways / local bus or taxi.

By Bus: Some buses ply up-to Nanital but majorly buses take you to Haldwani only and then you are on your own to travel to Pangot. It is advised to take a personal car / taxi from Delhi if you are planning to go to Pangot.

Kasuali is a tiny mountaineous town situated in Himachal Pradesh. It is also a contonment area which is around 288 Km from Delhi by road. Its a really small town with simple people, limited hotels which are cute and some are even heritage buildings from British India times. You can visit Kasauli to get away from the busy and noisy city life.

Other ways to reach Kasauli:

By Air: Chandigarh airport is around 70 Km away from Kasauli so in case you want to fly in, it is a doable option.

By Train: Kalka is the nearest Indian railway station, yes it is the same station from where the Shimla toy train also runs. Kalka is roughly about 40 Km away from Kasauli. Cabs & local buses are available at Kalka railway station.

By Bus: There is no direct bus which operates between Delhi & Kasauli however you can travel by bus via Chandigarh. There are regular local buses which operate to & fro.

One of the few places which you most likely havent heard about. Nahan lies in Sirmaur district on the foothills of Himachal Pradesh state. The place is largely undiscovered or passed as being nowhere. There are only handful of hotels and accommodation options around this area hence it is best advised that you pre-book your stay. One notable mention is CampRoxx adventure camps which offers cottage stay with decent facilities on an affordable budget.

Nahan (Kangojodi) is roughly about 278 KM from Delhi, it is strongly advised to hire a professional driver with a SUV to reach Kangojodi as the underdeveloped Forrest roads can be tricky for hatchback & sedans.

Other ways to reach Nahan (Kangojodi)

By Bus: Ambala is nearest big bus junction, a lot of buses ply between Ambala & Delhi from where you will have to hire a cab.

By Train: Ambala is the nearest railay station for reaching Nahan, it is recommended that you take a private cab to reach Nahan.

Barog is a small hill station in Solan district which lies in Himchal Pradesh. Do not expect Barog to be a typical hill station, it is anything but that. It is meant for being close to nature and tranquility. A perfect place to come with your loved ones, family or friends. It is one of the stations on the famous toy train route between Kalka - Shimla.

Distance between Delhi & Barog is roughly 289 KM by road.

Other ways to reach Barog:

By Air: Chandigarh airport is around 70 Km away from Barog so in case you want to fly in, it is a doable option.

By Train: Barog has its own railway station and it is highly recommended you take the toy train from Kalka to Barog. Unfortunately there are no direct trains from Delhi or other major cities, Kalka station is the only option which is decently connected by major cities in India.

By Bus: There is no direct bus which operates between Delhi & Barog however you can travel by bus via Chandigarh. There are regular local buses which operate to & fro.

Ranthambore is famous for Tiger sightings which are more often than in other national parks of India because of its dry terrain and absence of lush green Forrest area. The reason for that is that Ranthambore is in Rajasthan Desert area. Distance between Delhi & Rajasthan is roughly around 395 KM by road.

The national park is closed every year for monsoon and is best visited from October to April.

There are many resorts and hotels which offer luxurious accommodation options apart from tented stays, we recommend that you book a luxury resort as you would be spending majority of your time inside the hotel. The sanctuary game / visit happens mostly in the early morning or evening.

Other ways to reach Ranthambore

By Train & By Bus: Sawai Madhopur is the nearest town to Ranthambore and you would have to get down at Sawai Madhopur and then continue to Ranthambore by hiring a taxi / cab. Sawai Madhopur railway station is well connected to Delhi & Jaipur.

Do you know Bhimtal has its own lake like Nanital but it is comparatively much more serene and quiet. Bhimtal is strikinly similar to Nainital and falls in the same district of Uttarakhand. Bhimtal is roughly 309 Km from Delhi and 23 Km from Nainital by road.

Other ways to reach Bhimtal:

Bhimtal & Delhi are not connected directly by public transport.

By Train: You can take a train to Haldwani from Delhi from where you will have to depend upon a roadways / local bus or taxi.

By Bus: Some buses ply up-to Nanital but majorly buses take you to Haldwani only and then you are on your own to travel to Bhimtal. It is advised to take a personal car / taxi from Delhi if you are planning to go to Bhimtal.
